Googorola Approved by the European union (E.U)

Google Inc has won the hearts of the European Union to approve the purchase of Motorola Mobility. Even though they have approved the buyout of $12.5 billion for Motorola Mobility, the EU stated that they would closely monitor the company and how it will use the patents provided.

EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia had this to say,

"We have approved the acquisition… because upon careful examination, the transaction does not itself raise competition issues. This merger decisions should not and will not mean that we are not concerned by the possibility that, once Google is the owner of this portfolio, Google can abuse these patents, linking some patents with its Android devices. This is our worry."

So while this has been approved the EU is worried that Google may go Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back on Apple and even Microsoft. Right now patent wars are all the rage with company A suing company B for sometimes very minor and silly nuances. Almunia also said, “We might be obliged to open some cases in the future. This is not enough to block the merger but we will be vigilant.

Google is not home free yet though. Rumors state that the U.S. Department of Justice is set to approve the deal as early as this week. Not only that, but Google still needs approval from Chinese, Israeli, and Taiwanese regulators. It does seem Google is one step closer to their world domination plans. Whose side will you be on?
