UNN host community Protest over Dissatisfaction with the School administration
The host community of the University today 2nd
DEC 2013 held a protest to express their dissatisfaction with the university
administration over what they termed disregard and inability to honour
agreements reached by the founders and their fore-bearers. The protesters who
came out in their large numbers from
neighbouring Nsukka Communities lamented
that the current VC Prof. Bartho Okolo, has since the beginning of his
administration initiated draculian measures that ensures they live in untold
hardships.

Another source, known as rymzo put it this way:
Chief judge Akpan, see for urself. Dont ignorantly
talk what u dnt knw. THE PROTEST INSIDE UNN BY OWERRE-EZE ORBA YOUTHS: Owerre
Eze-orba is a neighbouring village, very close to UNN which has a boundary with
UNN. The place is popularly called "Greenhouse" because of the agric
greenhouse there. UNN collected lands from Nru, Owerre-Eze orba, Obukpa,
Odenigwe and Onuiyi to form UNN and none of these communities are given
anything like light, good road, water, job opportunities and so on as their
rights or in appreciation. I dont think its fair. Some parts of Owerre-eze orba
(Green house) used to get their electricity from campus but on february 19th,
2011, UNN cut off their light bacause according to UNN, the load was too much
and it was affecting the campus transformer that supplies light to the agric
and veterinary farm. The community was asked to buy transformers which they
have done and installed but UNN has refused to connect the light back and this
community has been in darkness for nearly 2 years now. Today's protest will be
the 3rd protest they have embarked on since last month and school keeps giving
them empty promises. They have the transformers installed, what does it take
UNN to give this poor community just electricity only, people that gave you their
land? Am not physically part of the demonstration and protest but am in support
of it. Give them light!
